A new report claims that a former federal prosecutor tried to inform the Department of Justice back in 2018 that he had a witness to an instance of Joe Biden essentially bribing the country of Ukraine in order to protect his son Hunter’s business interests.
According to Just The News, former U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins of Little Rock, Arkansas wrote a letter to then-New York U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman on October 4th, 2018; in his letter, Cummins said that Ukraine’s Prosecutor General at the time, Yuriy Lutsenko, was prepared to travel to the United States to provide evidence and his testimony regarding the Biden family’s involvement with the corrupt Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings.
Lutsenko, according to Cummins’ letter, believed that “VP Biden (and Sec State [John] Kerry) exercised influence to protect Burisma Holdings in exchange for payments to Hunter Biden, (business partner) Devon Archer, and Joe Biden.”
Cummins elaborated further in his letter, claiming that Lutsenko was prepared to produce two anonymous witnesses who would further back up his claims. One of his additional claims included the accusation that some of the money Hunter was paid for his position ultimately went back to Vice President Biden himself, and was paid by the firm of Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky.
“There is a claim they have proof of a wire of significant funds from Zlochevsky to Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC which they claim directly went to the benefit of Joe Biden,” said Cummins at the time. “I have never understood why they think they know it went to him. I think the entity was associated with Hunter Biden and Archer.”
“All I have been told is that the person who made the transfers was told that ‘one goes to Joe Biden.’ A little thin,” Cummins wrote in another email trying to convince Berman to meet with him. Ultimately, the Berman and the Department of Justice (DOJ) refused to consider his allegations.
“I can’t really imagine a legitimate reason for the DOJ not to follow up on an offer like that,” Cummins said in a recent interview. “I felt like it was stonewalled.”
Moreover, Cummins found himself a target of the DOJ just one year later, when he received notification from Apple in 2019 that federal prosecutors had used a grand jury subpoena to obtain data from his iPhone.
“It doesn’t make much sense to investigate the guy who brings you the allegation rather than the allegation,” Cummins noted.
Hunter Biden, along with his business partner Devon Archer, were appointed to the board of Burisma in 2014, while Hunter’s father was still Vice President of the United States, and had in fact been specifically designated by then-President Barack Obama as being in charge of foreign policy with regards to Ukraine. Given that the younger Biden had no experience in energy, the hire was widely seen as a deliberate effort to court favor with the then-Vice President, which created a conflict of interest.
When Ukraine’s then-Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin announced an investigation into Burisma’s corruption that threatened to entangle Hunter, then-Vice President Biden told then-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko that the U.S. would withhold up to $1 billion in foreign aid unless Shokin was fired, with Poroshenko ultimately complying with Biden’s demand. Biden himself later admitted to this incident during a public forum on foreign policy, proudly boasting about his influence over the decision to fire Shokin.
