What a disgrace.
Alvin Bragg, the suddenly infamous New York district attorney, is set to indict and arrest former President Donald Trump, according both to the former president and independent press reports.
This is not simply some miscarriage of justice. This is a deliberate, willful political hit job that is a blatant corruption of justice. With one purpose only: to weaponize the law to rig the 2024 election by keeping Trump from winning.
And as pointed out by none other than Elon Musk: “If this happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory.”
Bingo.
And I will add, reelecting Trump is now no longer a political choice for Republicans, it is a national security requirement to ensure that something like this will never — ever — happen again.
Recall the opening words of President Franklin Roosevelt in making his request to Congress to declare war on Japan after the unprovoked Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Said FDR: “Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”
And so it was a date that would — and has for the 82 years since — lived in infamy.
Now, without doubt, if Bragg goes ahead and arrests former President Trump as is said in the media and by the former president himself, so too will that date become a date that will live in infamy.
A date that should mark the beginning of a seriously needed prosecution — of Alvin Bragg.
Bragg is guilty of a massive corruption of justice. Guilty of weaponizing the office of the New York County District Attorney for the criminally corrupt purpose of prosecuting a political opponent — and interfering in a presidential election.
Alvin Bragg should be prosecuted and disbarred — and after he serves time in prison for his crime, he should never be allowed to practice law ever again.
And even more to the point?
Every single Democrat officeholder in the land — beginning with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul — should have the political courage to stand up and oppose Bragg. And in Hochul’s case, she should use her authority as governor to fulfill her 2022 GOP opponent Lee Zeldin’s promise to fire Bragg. Immediately.
And since Bragg wants to play politics? Alvin Bragg should be the central issue for every Republican running for office anywhere and everywhere in 2024. Republican candidates in 2024 — candidates not just for president but for U.S. senator, representative, governor, state legislator, and right on down to dogcatcher — should make it plain that there is no place in American life and law for the weaponization of the law. Anywhere, anytime. Period.
And speaking of politics? One poll after another has Trump defeating everyone from his potential and real GOP opponents to Joe Biden by as much as 20 percent. At the recent CPAC conference, he led 62 percent to 20 percent over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Over there at the Hill was this recent headline:
Trump widens lead in 2024 primary race: Quinnipiac poll
The story reports:
Former President Trump widened his lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to 14 points in a new Quinnipiac University poll of 15 current and potential candidates for the GOP presidential nomination.
The poll, released Wednesday, showed Trump in first with 46 percent support from Republicans and Republican-leaning voters, followed by DeSantis with 32 percent.
It is exactly this kind of move by Bragg that will boost those kinds of poll numbers even more.
Ohio’s Republican Rep. Jim Jordan is now the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. And to his great credit, Fox is headlining this:
House Judiciary Committee demands Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg testify about possible Trump indictment
And I would add that if the New York DA’s office receives any federal funding for anything, that funding should be cut off instantly.
Journalist Breanna Morello obtained an exclusive leak of a letter from Bragg to his staff in which Bragg said this:
This office is full of the finest public servants in the country. I am committed to maintaining a safe work environment where everyone is able to continue to serve the public with the same diligence and professionalism that makes this institution so renowned. In the meantime, as with all of our investigations, We will continue to apply the law evenly and fairly, and speak publicly only when appropriate.
Obviously, when Bragg says “We will continue to apply the law evenly and fairly,” he is straight-up lying. There is nothing in his targeting of Trump that is applying the law evenly and fairly. Nothing. There is no “professionalism” in what Bragg and his staff are doing. Nothing. And if in fact the members of his office are “the finest public servants in the country” — then they should quit on the spot. Both to protest this corruption of justice — and to ensure that this decidedly serious black mark does not follow them for the rest of their careers — if it doesn’t end their careers as well as Bragg’s.
In a blink, Alvin Bragg has changed the 2024 presidential election. He is forcing the American people to see just how corrupt his office is. He is the very embodiment of Joseph Stalin’s infamous secret police chief Lavrentiy Beria’s vow: “Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime.”
Not good. Not good at all.
For the sake of American democracy itself, it is time to rally to President Trump. And make certain this weaponization of the law never happens again.
