Former President Donald Trump on Thursday dismissed conservative commentator Kathy Barnette as a viable Republican candidate for Senate in Pennsylvania, saying she "will never be able to win the General Election" in a statement.
"Kathy Barnette will never be able to win the General Election against the Radical Left Democrats," Trump said in a message released by his political action committee, Save America.
He added that Barnette could have "a wonderful future" and he would support her if she were vetted.
"She has many things in her past which have not been properly explained or vetted, but if she is able to do so, she will have a wonderful future in the Republican Party—and I will be behind her all the way," Trump said.
"Dr. [Mehmet] Oz is the only one who will be able to easily defeat the Crazed, Lunatic Democrat in Pennsylvania. A vote for anyone else in the Primary is a vote against Victory in the Fall!"
Trump previously endorsed Oz, a popular TV host, in his campaign for Senate.
"The Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a tremendous opportunity to Save America by electing the brilliant and well-known Dr. Mehmet Oz for the United States Senate," Trump said in his endorsement last month, according to CNN. "I have known Dr. Oz for many years, as have many others, even if only through his very successful television show. He has lived with us through the screen and has always been popular, respected and smart."
