On this episode of “The Federalist Radio Hour,” Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway joins Culture Editor Emily Jashinsky to discuss how the corporate media’s lie that U.S. Park Police cleared “peaceful protesters” at Lafayette Square last summer so then-President Donald Trump could take a photo in front of St. John’s Church was weaponized by the left to push an agenda.
“The media are political actors,” Hemingway said. “They’re unaccountable political actors. This was something that they should have known was false from the get-go.”
Not only did the corporate media’s willingness to spread lies give the Democrats a “huge electoral gift,” Hemingway said, but it also set the tone for their coverage of the rest of the summer of rage.
“Nobody was able to restore law and order for the summer, and that resulted in dozens upon dozens of deaths, billions of dollars in damage, and the permanent destruction of small businesses. And this was one of the lingering side effects of that false narrative,” Hemingway said. “It literally led to death, and nobody seems to care about the costs associated with the left’s summer of violence or, you know, just the property loss, the damage, the psychological toll on the country of losing our bonds that keep us together. They felt it was very justified to do this in pursuit of their agenda. … Our media took sides.”
